The Catholic Church – As I understand it
There is no point in speaking about the Catholic Church if you cannot prove if there is God. There are several sites and books that proves the presence of God and a lot of them is based on St. Thomas Aquinas’ proof. St. Thomas Aquinas is a Dominican philosopher who lived around the 13th century and he wrote the so called Summa Theologica which is famous for the proof of God. But since that book is hard to read I will point you to Peter Kreeft and Father Robert Spitzer web sites for the proof of God
and check out his featured writings and audio.
Also if you are a science kind of guy you can visit
When I was younger I thought science can explain everything until I came across writings of C.S. Lewis, G.K Chesterton, Catholic apologists and theologians. It turned out that science is not the right tool to discover God, you need theology for that. How is that ? There are things that science cannot measure and answer like
science cannot measure love, anger
science cannot answer why we care
and there are famous people some of whom are great scientists who were atheist and became a believer
What about faith ? In reality all of us live by faith, how so ?
When I wake up in the morning I never check to see if my car will start or not, I just go into my car with faith that my car will start. Scientists accepts works of other scientists by faith. When we read books we assume by faith that what is in the book is true and correct.
Now that we have proven or at least we have good data that there is God and by faith we live, we can go ahead prove the Catholic Church.
Here are some good Catholic sites to start you with
and I hope you will have questions.
Why do I believe that what is written in the bible is true and there is God besides the explanations I gave above. If you will look at the bible in Genesis 3:15 after the fall God promised a savior or the Messiah the Jews has been waiting for, the verse I am speaking about is
I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; He will strike at your head, while you strike at his heel.”.
You have to understand that this event happened in the beginning but written by Moses some 1400 years before Christ (the Messiah). The coming of Jesus and He admitting himself to be the Messiah (the Christ) confirms the genesis event. Jesus said when asked by Peter
16 Simon Peter said in reply, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.”
17 Jesus said to him in reply, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah. For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my heavenly Father.
I think that is enough information for one to believe in God but if you still have question about God, consider what Jesus said
“And I tell you, ask and you will receive; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.
But you can forever be asking without making any commitment so I leave you with another saying from a convert to the Catholic Church, John Henry Newman
Ten thousand difficulties do not make one doubt.
